As I sit this morning, I am somewhat overwhelmed by what I read. I began by reading Scripture and the accounts of 2 Chronicles and Solomon’s accomplishments. It was such a blessing to read about someone doing what God asked and seeing how God responds. Of course, then the chapters end with the death of Solomon and his son Rehoboam ascends to the throne. We know that he fails miserably and in short order destroys many of the accomplishments of his father, turns from God and does evil in the eyes of the Lord.
I then prayed for many things that I regularly pray about including people who I also pray for. Knowing that God is always there and at work is a reassurance that helps any of us through the day. I know it does for me each day. I thought about what some one once said “when you don’t know what to do, pray”. That is great advice and should be the word each day for every believer. Can I get an Amen?
It was a little later that I made my way into the world and what is happening. To say that I was overwhelmed, as I mentioned earlier, would be an understatement. It was more than, man that is a lot going on, it was more like even so come quickly Lord Jesus. As I read and listened to reports, there was violence and attacks both here and in other countries. Hatred was apparent at every corner.
Elaine and I had talked yesterday about what is happening in the world. I commented to her then that this is all evidence of the demonic influence in the world. Satan is full throttle in wrecking havoc. He is poisoning the minds of people and they are possessed with his hatred and disregard for others.
In that time yesterday, I was reminded of and commented to her that the only hope for this world is Jesus. As I read this morning, I was following some of my friends and one wrote that yesterday he shared Jesus with a waitress at lunch and she asked Jesus into her heart and life. Another person wrote about telling a couple about Jesus and they were saved. Actually he shared Jesus with them, but the seed had been planted by his friend before he died. They received Jesus because of the life another had lived.
I know enough of Scripture to know how this whole thing ends. We all probably have something wrong in the end times scenario but this is something we can all agree on, we win. Satan is defeated and Jesus Christ is King. Heaven is our home and it is in this life that we are just passing through.
As I write this now, I am a little bit more calm. I am still extremely concerned about what is happening around us all. War may break out in the Middle East at any time. Would it surprise me? Not at all because for all we know of the end times there are details we don’t know. We could well be seeing events that will and are ushering in the Great Tribulation.
Now from my understanding of Scripture, and yes you may disagree, but please bare with me. We would probably all agree that the next thing to happen in the end times scenario is for Jesus to come and get His church. When He does the Great Tribulation begins. OK, I know that some of you may think it already has and whether it has or hasn’t it doesn’t really change much of anything. It is still 7 years and the first 3 are pretty good by the world‘s standards. It is the next 3 that really are a problem.
By the time that gets here, I know I am gone regardless of your position on the Great Tribulation. Looking at the big picture of life and this world, can we really expect things to not be as messed up as they are? Certainly not, this world is and will continue to spiral out of control. I am reminded right here that this sounds so dire but it really isn’t because “He’s got the whole world in His Hands“. Do you remember the song as a child? I do-
1 He's got the whole world in his hands.
He's got the whole world in his hands.
He's got the whole world in his hands.
2 He's got the wind and the rain in his hands.
(Sing three times)
He's got the whole world in his hands.
3 He's got the little tiny baby in his hands. . . .
He's got the whole world in his hands.
4 He's got you and me, brother, in his hands. . . .
He's got the whole world in his hands.
5 He's got you and me, sister, in his hands. . . .
He's got the whole world in his hands.
6 He's got everybody here in his hands. . . . He's got the whole world in his hands. I
I feel a little better now and that is because I know that “He’s got this”.
A thought to ponder,
Elbert Nasworthy
