There was a time we might start by saying something like “I’m just not sure anymore”. I can honestly say that I have dropped the word “anymore” from that statement. Anymore (see how I did that?) I’m just not sure about so many things that are going on right here in our country.
A good friend recently did a video about regulations. He was showing that regulations have and will get in the way every time. It is not that there are not some times when we need regulations but we have gone well overboard today. We are seeing that regulations are being made and implemented with the same force as law. No representation, no debate, no consideration of how it affects people. Just make it a regulation, today we hear the word mandate, and it will all be OK. Well, it won’t and in the end it will be much worse than it would have been.
There are a plethora of things that are happening that are having impacts on individuals, businesses, even churches. I have heard many people in different context and situations talk about the impact that lawyers are having on things that are occurring in every facet of life. The issue is liability and how it might have to be dealt with by an organization, business, even a church. We need laws and we need lawyers. However, we also need to be able to live and enjoy this life while we can and do so free to make decisions. Some will be good and unfortunately some will not. Even some that will have catastrophic results.
We seem to have lurched into a time and place in history where more and more people believe that they should never have to face the harsh reality of life. There is no amount of protection a government or any one can provide you to shield you from life. Life happens and it can be hard sometimes.
The Apostle Paul wrote to many of the churches of his day. His message was one of a risen Savior Jesus Christ. He told them about what would happen one day. That Jesus would come back and all of the issues of life would be settled. A new body and a new reality in Heaven with God the Father and His Son Jesus. I know as a believer I look forward to that day.
He also wrote about how we as Christians should and shouldn’t act. I have written about this in previous blogs. We have lost the influence as Christians. What was once a nation that was considered Christian, meaning that there were many citizens who were Christians. It also meant that although not all were, most were influenced by Christian beliefs. The Ten Commandments, the Golden Rule, even the Judeo-Christian work ethic was instilled in people as they grew. Education was a priority in order to be able to make a living for you and your family. The American Dream was something that was available and attainable for all.
We are a nation of immigrants and more are coming. They want to come to the land of the free. What will they find when they get here? We are moving at speeds unseen before in losing freedoms. Freedoms which they are coming for and opportunity which is fading every day. Once we called for the huddled masses to be given to us and they came. Today we see them come but in chaotic caravans.
We have lost the order that is necessary to function. It is evident in every area of your life and mind. What is happening around you is causing you to think and do things you might never have done before. You might believe something that previously was something you would have shunned and even ignored. However, now you are berated and thus convinced that the only option you have is to accept the unacceptable. You probably never thought you would ever get to that place in your life, yet here you are doing things you would have never done before.
Let go and let God is something that we should all do much more of in our lives. Trying to do this life without His help and guidance will be an utter failure. Whether the words of the Psalmist who said-“O Lord, I give my life to you. I trust in you, my God! Do not let me be disgraced, or let my enemies rejoice in my defeat.” Psalms 25:1-2 NLT or those of Peter-“…all of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude. Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and he will grant you his blessing.” 1 Peter 3:8-9 NLT
I have said it before and I will say it again, the only hope for this world (everyone in it) is Jesus. Only God knows how your life or mine will turn out. Only God knows how things will go tomorrow, next week, next month, next year. He knows that about you, me and this world in which we live. I‘m just not sure, no wait, I am sure that God has got the whole world in His hands. He‘s got you and me in His hands.
In God’s Grace,
Elbert Nasworthy
