I know I have, and you probably have made this statement that nobody knows but God. We say this because He is omniscient which means He possesses the state of having total knowledge.
I hope you find as much comfort and strength in this truth as I do. Because if you do, then when you observe all that is going on around you and even with you there is comfort that God knows. Scriptures declare this-
1 John 3:20 says in the ESV-
for whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything.
There is solace in knowing that the God of Heaven and creation knows everything. There is nothing He does not know and thus understand. He is never faced with a dilemma or issue He doesn’t already know how and what to do.
Psalm 139:1-4 declares-
1 O Lord, you have searched me and known me!
2 You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar.
3 You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways.
4 Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.
That was true of the Psalmist and it is true of each of us. I found verse 4 paradoxical in that I say things sometimes and I would then comment it is the spur of the moment. I have given it no thought but God knows before I even say it or in this case, even write it down.
I would imagine you have gotten the point, God knows everything. There is a reason that this particular truth is so prevalent in my mind.
We are now eighteen days away from an election. This one includes the office of the President of the United States. In our state, it includes a US Senate race. There are six Amendments to the Constitution of Florida. There are Judgeships and local offices that even include Mosquito Control Commissioner Seats. The consequences of this election are across a wide and varying range of offices and actions.
Now, lest you think that is the reason for this blog, let me share some other reasons. We are on the heels of hurricanes that have impacted not only this state but others in the southeast. Supplies for rebuilding could be scarce. If you combine that with food and water, the two things we need to survive, it could get pretty dicey. Don’t even get me started on the conspiracy theories running rampant on all sides of the political landscape.
I have had to have some tests and a couple more to come that my doctor deemed necessary. FYI, I feel fine and as far as I know now this may be nothing but it certainly could be something.
So with all of those things, I am at peace because I am assured that I don’t know how the election will go, how things will transpire with the hurricane recovery, or even my medical condition. Nobody knows but God does. In that, we can all put our trust.
I want to use this quote again because it is one that I love. The simplicity and focus are powerful and profound. It was Charles Haddon Spurgeon, known as The Prince of Preachers who said-
God is too good to be unkind and He is too wise to be mistaken. And when we cannot trace His hand we must trust His heart.
All any of us can do is trust the heart of God. The essence of who He is and what He is doing. The will of God is always done. It will often differ in many ways from our will. Yet the will of God is perfect and it is seen in His omniscience. Only an all-knowing God can and will have His will done.
In Matthew 21:32 ESV Jesus said-
32 For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him. And even when you saw it, you did not afterward change your minds and believe him.
In this verse, Jesus is rebuking the chief priest and elders after He has given them the parable of the two sons. The will of the Father is for all men to change their minds and believe in Jesus Christ.
So pay attention here, please. The will of the Father for you and me is to change our minds and believe in Jesus Christ. I know that I have and if you have done that then you and I are on your way to doing the will of the Father, too.
John 6:38-40 ESV we read that Jesus says-
38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me.
39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day.
40 For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”
The will of the Father is that His creation, man come to know Him. Man comes to know God through the Son. His will is for man to come to Him through the Son. It is really a very simple proposition. He is not asking man to give Him anything or give up anything. We do end up giving Him ourselves and what we want.
Paul told the Galatians in his letter to them in chapter 2 verse 20 that-
I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me;
and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me
These words mean the breaking and collapse of independence brought about by Paul’s own hands, and the surrendering of his life to the supremacy of the Lord Jesus. Paul was saying, no one can do this for me, I must do it myself.
We are no different the Apostle Paul. Each of us needs to allow for and submit to His Lordship. It is done daily through faith. Remember what the Scripture tells us?
Ephesians 2:8-9 ESV
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,
9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
We can’t do it ourselves and we are blessed to know that nobody knows but God how this whole thing ends.
In God’s Grace,
